Caramelized French Toast

hello everyone!
look at me-two posts in two days!

what a great weekend Tay and I had.
in addition to breakfast on saturday & window shopping
at fashion place mall, we decided to have an
oscar party Sunday evening!
and what a great time it was!
good friends, great food, and yummy yummy desserts!
i wish i had taken pictures, but i didn't really think about it
until it was too late.
next year, I guess.

so before we had our oscar extravaganza on Sunday evening
(by the way, didn't you just love Jennifer Lawrence's dress?! Swoon!)
i made some delicous caramelized french toast.
i'm not joking, it was the best french toast i've ever had.
let me share my tricks with you;
pardon the popcorn-looking eggs...
1. use the generic eggs and milk, of course as your base
2. a pinch of salt & plenty of cinnamon
(i add more cinnamon between each piece of bread so that it coats each piece)
3. here's my secret ingredient-vanilla. lots of vanilla. if you ever have the chance, too
purchase the mexican vanilla-it's a million times better than generic
4. after you make the french toast to your liking, place a tablespoon
(or two, depending on how many pieces of french toast you have made.
between the two of us i made five pieces and one tablespoon was just perfect)
of butter into the pan along with a 1/4 cup of water and a half a cup of brown sugar.
stir together and coat french toast in brown sugar glaze.
and that's it! so simple!
serve & enjoy!
if you have any questions about serving adjustments,
please comment below, i'm more than happy to answer your questions.

oh and also, i saw safe haven with some girls from work tonight.
loved it. i highly recommend it if you're in the mood for a lovey dovey,
semi-predictable, romantic, typical nicholas sparks movie.
josh duhamel + julianne hough = so cute

now i'm going to spend the evening with my love

Greasy Burritos & Garbage Hash

 i love Saturdays.
sleeping in, no work, no school, and i get to have my mornings with my darling.

tay and i went out to brunch again this morning-
let me tell you, I am loving going to all these new places!
and since we don't have much time during the week to go on dates, this makes it perfect!
(for those of you who missed my previous breakfast review, you can be in the loop here!)
today tay didn't even have to work so we spent the whole day together!
that hasn't happened in quite a while-i was as happy as a kid in a candy store

this weekend we went to a little place called
The Belgian Waffle & Omelet Inn.
when we walked in, the place was hoppin!
it was snowing outside, there was a large murmur of conversation
and the smell of eggs & bacon were in the air;
the perfect combination for a lovely Saturday brunch.
i shied away from the French Toast again this week
(which is what I typically would order when getting breakfast)
and instead went with a breakfast burrito.
It was good, but not superb.
it needed a lot of hot sauce, since there wasn't much flavor
as far as breakfast burritos go, however, this one was in my top ten
taylor got something by the name of
garbage hash
now don't be turned away because of the name;
green peppers
onions
cheese
hash browns
mushrooms
ham
...
deliciousness.
get this if you go.
tay said it's a little oniony but super good-
and freak, with a name like that how can you pass it up?
their hot chocolate is bomb also.
our waiter, however, was a bit of an airhead...
he came to our table three times the whole hourish we were there
and never refilled our waters

but overall, i would give the belgian waffle and omelette inn a
seven out of ten on the ashley restaurant scale.

have you ever been there?
any recommendations for next time or for future customers?

Saturday Brunch

This past Saturday Tay and I hit up a local breakfast spot,
Eggs In The City.
Can I just say it was fabulous!
I highly recommend the Mexican Skillet & the French Toast!
They caramelize the toast and it makes it mmmm-delicious!
While we were sitting at the counter, enjoying the beautiful sunshine
and our delicious brunch, Taylor and I vowed to only eat at
local restaurants when we go out to eat on dates!
Anybody know any good local places in SLC area?
I'd love to hear!

We spent the rest of the day (until Tay had to work) walking
and exploring different antique & thrift shops downtown.
We found this store called City Creek Antiques that was
hands down the best antique store I've ever been in.
The shop owner, Spencer, was hilarious-he teased Tay and me
because we looked too young to be married-of course we never hear that...ever
(feel free to have a laugh at that last part).
They had the most amazing teacups there-I was absolutely in awe!
(for those of you who don't know, I collect teacups)

I sure do hope you guys took advantage of the weather this weekend
and enjoyed it with someone you love-I know I did!

Happy Birthday, Happy Valentine's

How adorable is this little red munchkin?

This past Tuesday this little munchkin turned 25!
Twenty Five!
We celebrated with sushi, cupcakes, presents, and the nicklecade
(which is quickly becoming a birthday tradition).

Along with my honey's birthday, it's Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day to all you lovers out there!
Although Tay has to work, I'm making dinner
(chocolate covered strawberries, Martinelli's, steak, mashed potatoes
and green beans..what more could a guy ask for?)
Valentine's Day is usually a more low-key holiday for us, since Taylor's birthday
is just two days before hand but it's always nice to feel especially loved one extra day
out of the year-this year it came in the way of a new cheetah blouse.
Nailed it, babe.

In other news, about a week and a half ago I was perusing through Target
and hit up their $1 section and stumbled across a mini poppy plant.

Now if any of you out there are like me, you don't have much luck with
a) starting a garden
or let alone
b) keeping a garden

But I guess I was feeling adventurous that day and decided to get myself a mini poppy!
I feel like a proud mommy, watching my baby grow up.

Today I also got four new ones to put in my kitchen;
strawberries, daisies, sunflowers, and "lucky" clovers.
Can't wait!

What did you do for your Valentine's Day?

February 6, 2013

It's been a while.

Hello everyone!
Here's what's been happening-Instagram style.
Went to Ikea this weekend with my favorite girls.
Got a new basket for my towels and a cute new plant!
Also, I got bangs! I love them! And I got to visit my cute little sister
who is growing up way too fast.
Tay's little brother Brennan's birthday was yesterday, he's nineteen!
Date night at Vinto's downtown SLC-if you haven't been there, go!

And the biggest news of all:
TAY AND I ARE GOING TO BEYONCE IN JUNE IN VEGAS!!
We are going for our two year anniversary.
We have both been waiting for SO long to get tickets to her!
I literally danced around work when I found out!
Let's just say I'm counting down the days...
only four months and 23 days to go.
