sixteen weeks + counting

well it certainly has been a hot minute or two since i've been on here;
you can thank my gurgling tummy for that one.
just wanted to update you all on my life, since that's pretty much all i ever do on here;

-had the opportunity to go to michigan last week thanks to
tay's grandpa and a little old thing called a buddy pass, and boy was it grand!
i got to see my best friend in her amazing wedding dress (i would post pics but
it's very hush-hush and top secret), since i won't be there for her big day,
it was extra special for me to be there for her fitting.
she is going to be such a beautiful bride, i can't wait!

-of course i got to see my wonderful family! it was so great to be there
while i was pregnant-i'm glad i got to see them before these nuggets come!
i have missed them a lot, the last time i saw them was in august..that's a long time.

-i also got to see so many other great friends and of course had to eat some
butch's beach burritos (i know, the name is weird, but seriously best mexican evaaa!)

also, pregnancy update;
How far along: 16 weeks and 3 days!

Baby size: about the size of an avocado-two avocados! (guacamole anyone?)
they can hear now, and know the difference between light and dark!
...
Weight gain: a bit, but it's going straight to my lady lumps. all three of them.
and thankfully it hasn't been in my face.. pray that i don't get a double chin.
...
Maternity clothes: seriously the belly band is the greatest thing invented. i can still fit into my jeans
in my legs, but this big ol' belly is harder to squeeze in there. as far as maternity clothes
shopping, nope, just bought one pair of maternity jeans which i kind of hate.
...
Stretch Marks: nope, knock on wood!
...
Sleep: oh yeaaah this girl loves to sleep. i am currently whipping out the pillow-between-the-legs
stuff when i sleep at night, it's just more comfortable. aside from body aches in the morning,
i've been able to sleep well thus far.
...
Gender: eeeeeek! we should find out on thursday!! i seriously cannot wait!
i hope we have at least one boy (hoping for one of each or two boys) because we have
the perfect name picked out for a little mr hawkins.
...
Best moment this week: well, it's only tuesday, but i'm pretty sure the best moment this week
will be our check up on thursday!
...
Looking forward to: our ultrasound! finally finding out what these beans are and seeing them
again-i can't wait! they actually start to look like humans at this point!
...
What I miss: having an appetite. it's just starting to come back, my morning sickness has been
less lately (lately as in the last four days), but i can't wait until something sounds good aside from
frosted mini wheats and pizza...
...
Movement: not yet but i can't wait! it's gonna be like a zoo in there!
...
Food cravings: not much, and it's not consistent. one day peaches and cottage cheese will sound good,
the next day all i want to eat is in-n-out (healthy, i know). the only thing i have consistently craved
is frozen yogurt, that always sounds relish but doesn't fill me up for long!
...
Aversions: eggs. yuck. big time. and pretzels.
...
Belly button: still in!
...
Nursery: yeah, haven't even thought about it. okay that's not true. i think about it all the time.
we just don't know what we are having yet, so it's hard to get too excited!
i do have lots of ideas, but this little apartment of ours doesn't allow for much of a nursery.
cross your fingers we can find a bigger place once our contract is up in may!
but seriously...moving while seven months pregnant sounds about like the worst thing in the world..
...
Miscellaneous: just excited for thursday! i know i mentioned it like 500 times, i just can't wait!
also, i feel like i've popped out over night. literally. and i can't get over how weird it feels
to have your stomach growing..i do feel like i am doing good, considering there are two beans in there.
here's to hoping yoga workouts pay off and i don't gain too much weight.
not gonna lie, i'm terrified.
also, my cousin who had twins in december let me borrow some of her twin books,
and i do have to say, it's been pretty enlightening.
i'm figuring out it's totally normal to be tired all the time still; my body is doing
twice the work of a woman pregnant with one!
also why i've had a harder time with morning sickness.

changes

i've had a lot of thoughts today.
........
we had our 12, almost 13, week check-up but didn't get to see the beans,
just hear their tiny, speeding heart beats.
my left little bean has got a heart beat of about 163, my right bean
is at about 157, so they're doing really well! oh, and i've gained a pound-holla.
i was a little worried when it took a while to find the second heart-beat
but he/she was just hiding in the background.
the other was front + center, ready for action.
i cannot wait to meet them!
the further along i get, the more the
nerves and worries go away (although they'll probably never fully go away),
and the more excitement and anticipation sets in.
yesterday we went to look for cribs, stroller and car seats.
(notice the "s" on the end of those...)
we found some fabulous stuff at burlington, babies-r-us, and ikea.
anyone have anywhere else they liked to go for necessities?

UPDATES
+ the beans are actually the size of a peach, roughly 3" long
(according to my app; probably a bit smaller, since there are two)
+ still feeling the morning sickness, i have my good days and i have my bad days;
can't wait until i only have good days with no ralphing. i've seen way too much of
the insides of my stomach.
+ i haven't really had many cravings aside from fruits and veggies
and the occasional ice cream
+ we could find out what gender each bean is at our next appointment
which is at the end of this month-i'm so excited!!
even though we have announced our pregnancy, it still doesn't quite
feel real. i think until i know what gender the beans are, and can
feel them moving around (which i hear is wild), things will be much more real
+ feeling anxious, excited, slightly overwhelmed, happy, tired, always hungry
+ my favorite thing so far has been the way tay talks to the beans.
he always tells them good night and kisses my belly.
he's going to be an amazing dad.
i hope they have his compassion and love of life.
oh, and his nose.
the beans at 8 weeks-two separate sacks means more than likely they'll be fraternal
helloooo, 12 weeks!
can't wait until i'm past the awkward fat stage and actually have a bump i can dress!
oh, and please excuse the messy house..the holidays really took their toll on our little place.

i'm excited to keep you all updated!
we have another appointment in 4 weeks, and then a second one in 7 where they
look at the organs and anatomy of the beans. if we don't find out the gender
at 16 weeks, we'll definitely know by 20!
i'm still working on that video of our parents for you guys-can't wait to show you!

December 30, 2013

we prayed for one, we were blessed with two

i don't know how many of you remember back in september i wrote a post
about going through a trial.
i can officially tell you all that that trial is over, for now!
and we couldn't be happier.
on november 5, tay and i found out we are expecting a little nugget!

i remember the day like it was yesterday.
it was the first huge snow storm of the year.
i had taken one of those early tests on halloween but it was negative.
i was supposed to start my cycle on the 5th, and though-eh! why not?
if i'm not..that just means i'll have to go in for testing, so i figured i'd
just give it a shot!
i had one pregnancy test left..as i waited for the stick to turn,
i got an excited, warm feeling in the pit of my stomach.
i watched the two little signs start to show and had to blink several times
to be sure i was seeing it right!
for months it had been negative after negative (after negative).
i ran into our bedroom (which is only like 5 feet from the bathroom)
and jumped onto our bed-waking tay up from his slumber with my
shouts of joy and tears.
he was half asleep still and asked, "how did that happen?!"
well kids...the birds and the bees...

i wanted to be extra sure that the test was right, so i ventured out into
the freezing cold snow storm to the smiths near our house.
of course, the pharmacy was closed and all the tests were locked
behind a huge gate. serious?!
i asked an employee if i could get one, and she took me to a case
full of them across the store.
she kept looking me up and down, probably thinking i looked about 15..
anyway, i bought the test, came back and took 2 more-both positive!
i drove to work, my mind spinning.
my heart racing and my hands clammy.
we didn't expect to see any results for at least another year.
Heavenly Father really has a way with timing!

at our 8 week baby appointment, we got to see the bean and
hear the heart beat.
while we were getting our ultrasound, he moved around my
belly and nonchalantly said, "here's the baby........and here's the other one!"
we both looked at each other...TWINS?!?
are you for real?!
yup.
two little beans inside my belly!
can you believe it?
our parents sure couldn't! i'm working on a video to share with you all.
we didn't tell our parents or tay's family until christmas eve/day!
they could not have been more surprised, happy, ecstatic, excited..
you name it, they were it.

2014 will definitely be a crazy ride, but the more i think about it,
the more excited i get.
minus the fact that i'll never sleep again..
i've still got a long ways to go-i can't wait to share this journey with
all you lovely blogging buddies.
